LOWNDES COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lowndes County, including Fort Deposit and Hayneville, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 4:08 AM CDT. Residents must take immediate action to prepare for dangerous wind conditions and significant flooding.
Strong Tropical Storm force winds are expected early this evening through Saturday morning, with peak gusts up to 75 mph. The NWS advises completing all preparations for significant wind damage as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall is estimated at 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, potentially leading to moderate flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Driving conditions will become hazardous, and some road closures are anticipated.
