Beach Hazards & Coastal Flood Advisory for Malibu, LA Beaches
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches until Tuesday, warning of dangerous rip currents, elevated surf, and minor to moderate coastal flooding around high tide.
Residents and visitors along the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches are advised to take immediate precautions due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA.
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect from October 12 at 8:19 PM PDT until October 13 at 5:00 PM PDT, warning of dangerous rip currents and elevated surf. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 2 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 13, for potential minor to moderate coastal flooding around times of high tide. High tides are expected to peak between 7.1 to 7.3 feet on Tuesday morning. Minor to moderate flooding of seawater is likely in low-lying beach and harbor areas, with enhanced beach erosion possible. The risk of significant damage is low.
The NWS warns of an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea, and waves can wash people off beaches and rocks. Small boats nearshore may be capsized. Swimmers and surfers are advised to remain out of the water due to hazardous conditions or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties are particularly dangerous, and the public should stay off them.
Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property. Do NOT drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Future Beach Hazards Statements may be issued due to continued elevated tides and surf into at least Thursday.
