Beach Hazards & Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Malibu, LA Beaches
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches, warning of dangerous rip currents, elevated surf, and minor to moderate coastal flooding until Tuesday afternoon.
Residents and visitors to the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches are advised to take immediate precautions due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA.
The Beach Hazards Statement, effective from 9:33 AM PDT today, October 12, until 5:00 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 13, warns of dangerous rip currents and elevated surf. The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 2:00 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 13, with minor to moderate coastal flooding expected during high tides. High tides are anticipated to peak around 7.1 to 7.3 feet on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Impacts include minor to moderate flooding in low-lying beach and harbor areas, enhanced beach erosion, and an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea, and waves can wash people off beaches and rocks.
Authorities urge the public to remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions or to stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties are dangerous, and individuals should stay off them. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property. Do NOT drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
