Press Release: SWCD Water Test Kits By Beltrami County - Sep 24, 2026 Press Releases Beltrami Soil and Water Conservation District Date: September 24, 2026 FREE Well Water Test Kits – Blackduck Leevers Foods Well Aware is conducting a clinic to distribute free water kits to help private well owners test for lead, arsenic, and bacteria in their ground water. Residents can come to Leveers Foods in Blackduck at 288 Frontage Rd, Blackduck, MN on September 29th from 3pm-6pm to pick up their free water test kit. Residents can also bring a half cup water sample in a clean container on September 29th if they would like a free, on-the-spot nitrate screening. (To collect the nitrate sample, people should run their tap water for 5 minutes before collecting the sample on the morning of the 29th. If you have a treatment system to remove nitrate or a reverse osmosis system, people can collect 2 nitrate water samples for the 29th. One before the treatment system and one after to check if the system is working.) Filled test kits for bacteria, lead, and arsenic should be returned to the Well Aware Team at Blackduck Leveers Foods on October 1st from 11am-1pm. Instructions on water sample collection will be given at the event. This event is brought to you by Well Aware and local partner organizations. Well Aware is part of the Northwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership to raise awareness about water quality in our area. Part of that work is providing free water testing kits to private well owners and giving out information about potential health issues that can be caused by poor water quality. File A Case Skip to main content File a Case File a Case in District Court Most cases begin in Minnesota’s district courts. District courts are located in each of the state's 87 counties and are divided among 10 judicial districts for administration purposes. File using paper Unless required to use the eFile and eServe (eFS) System as described below, court users can file paper documents and court forms at the courthouse by going to the courthouse or by mailing their filings to the courthouse. You can find the addresses to the courthouses on our Find Courts page. Guide & File Minnesota Guide & File is an electronic tool that helps you create court forms in certain types of cases. In most situations, you can then file your forms electronically (eFile) through Guide & File or print and file on paper. eFiling eFiling is the process of submitting court filings electronically. To use eFiling, you must have completed documents saved as PDF’s on your computer. If you do not yet have completed documents saved on your computer, please review the Help Topics for links to forms and other information about your case type. Attorney, government agencies, or guardians ad litem, are mandatory eFilers and are required to use eFiling to file documents. Filers who have eFiled into a case before must continue to use eFiling to file documents into that case. Follow the link below to: Learn about filing a case in district court Find instructions and eFiling resources Electronically file and serve court documents (for applicable filers) Contact the eFile Support Center eFile a Case in District (Trial) Court File a Case in Supreme Court or Court of Appeals The Minnesota Court of Appeals provides the citizens of Minnesota with prompt and deliberate review of all final decisions of the trial courts, state agencies and local governments. As the error-correcting court, the Court of Appeals handles most appeals, which allows the Minnesota Supreme Court to spend time resolving difficult constitutional and public policy cases. The Minnesota Supreme Court receives cases from the Court of Appeals on petitions for review or accelerated review. In addition, several types of cases bypass the Court of Appeals and go directly to the Supreme Court including appeals of murder cases in the first degree and cases coming from the Tax Court and Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals. Press Release: MSA Scholarships By Beltrami County - Sep 17, 2026 Press Releases Sheriff Jason Riggs of Beltrami County announced today the commencement of the Law Enforcement Scholarship Program for 2026. Sheriff Riggs proudly announced that the MSA Board of Directors has established a scholarship fund for the awarding of up to 18 - $2,000 scholarships for this year. These scholarships are due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 elected Sheriffs of the State of Minnesota. The MSA gives special recognition to the financial needs of students attending the peace officer skills course or one of the two- or four-year law enforcement degree programs around the state. “The MSA Board of Directors acknowledges the current challenges in recruiting and greatly appreciates the individuals who decide to serve others through a career in law enforcement. This is one way that we can support that honorable decision,” said Deputy Director Brian Johnson. “This remains a noble profession and offering these scholarships is another we that we can promote the profession and support those who wish to serve and protect in our communities.” said Beltrami County Sheriff Jason Riggs The MSA recognizes the importance of pre-entry training for people considering law enforcement as their career choice. The MSA also acknowledges that some students may need outside help in meeting the costs of such training, even though they excel academically. The MSA Scholarship Committee, in making its selection of awards, intends to achieve representation from all geographical areas of the state. The scholarship deadline is November 30th, 2026. Awards will be announced on the MSA web page and on social media at the start of 2027. Application forms and a statement of procedures are available at the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office. Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following three categories: 1. Mandated POST Skills Program 2. In their second year of a two-year law enforcement program. 3. In their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program. To qualify, students must have completed at least one year of the two-year program or two years of a four-year program. Students meeting these criteria are invited to obtain a scholarship application form from their local sheriff’s office or online at www.mnsheriffs.org.
Public Drainage Ditches
Public Drainage Ditches The County Highway Department assists in the maintenance and management of the Public Drainage Ditches in the County. Beltrami County has 1,050 miles of public drainage ditches. The County Board of Commissioners acts as the Ditch Authority with the Highway Department acting as the Ditch Inspector and or Ditch Engineer as needed. Landowners along these public drainage ditches may occasionally need to submit a Request For Ditch Repair when a ditch requires maintenance attention. If a landowner wants to work on a ditch, there is a process in place to ask permission that begins with completing a Judicial Ditch Permit Application. Ditch information is shown on the Beltrami County GIS Mapping Program. For more information, contact the Beltrami County Highway Department. Only one lane through the Transfer Station will be open through the first week of September. The 24-hour lane for Household Garbage, (ie: produced while making a meal and put under the kitchen sink). Recycling will be remain open as usual. All non-burn items will have to be brought through the Transfer Station’s one lane during normal business hours.
