Press Release: SWCD Water Test Kits By Beltrami County - Sep 24, 2026 Press Releases Beltrami Soil and Water Conservation District Date: September 24, 2026 FREE Well Water Test Kits – Blackduck Leevers Foods Well Aware is conducting a clinic to distribute free water kits to help private well owners test for lead, arsenic, and bacteria in their ground water. Residents can come to Leveers Foods in Blackduck at 288 Frontage Rd, Blackduck, MN on September 29th from 3pm-6pm to pick up their free water test kit. Residents can also bring a half cup water sample in a clean container on September 29th if they would like a free, on-the-spot nitrate screening. (To collect the nitrate sample, people should run their tap water for 5 minutes before collecting the sample on the morning of the 29th. If you have a treatment system to remove nitrate or a reverse osmosis system, people can collect 2 nitrate water samples for the 29th. One before the treatment system and one after to check if the system is working.) Filled test kits for bacteria, lead, and arsenic should be returned to the Well Aware Team at Blackduck Leveers Foods on October 1st from 11am-1pm. Instructions on water sample collection will be given at the event. This event is brought to you by Well Aware and local partner organizations. Well Aware is part of the Northwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership to raise awareness about water quality in our area. Part of that work is providing free water testing kits to private well owners and giving out information about potential health issues that can be caused by poor water quality. Press Release: MSA Scholarships

Press Release: MSA Scholarships By Beltrami County - Sep 17, 2026 Press Releases Sheriff Jason Riggs of Beltrami County announced today the commencement of the Law Enforcement Scholarship Program for 2026. Sheriff Riggs proudly announced that the MSA Board of Directors has established a scholarship fund for the awarding of up to 18 - $2,000 scholarships for this year. These scholarships are due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 elected Sheriffs of the State of Minnesota. The MSA gives special recognition to the financial needs of students attending the peace officer skills course or one of the two- or four-year law enforcement degree programs around the state. “The MSA Board of Directors acknowledges the current challenges in recruiting and greatly appreciates the individuals who decide to serve others through a career in law enforcement. This is one way that we can support that honorable decision,” said Deputy Director Brian Johnson. “This remains a noble profession and offering these scholarships is another we that we can promote the profession and support those who wish to serve and protect in our communities.” said Beltrami County Sheriff Jason Riggs The MSA recognizes the importance of pre-entry training for people considering law enforcement as their career choice. The MSA also acknowledges that some students may need outside help in meeting the costs of such training, even though they excel academically. The MSA Scholarship Committee, in making its selection of awards, intends to achieve representation from all geographical areas of the state. The scholarship deadline is November 30th, 2026. Awards will be announced on the MSA web page and on social media at the start of 2027. Application forms and a statement of procedures are available at the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office. Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following three categories: 1. Mandated POST Skills Program 2. In their second year of a two-year law enforcement program. 3. In their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program. To qualify, students must have completed at least one year of the two-year program or two years of a four-year program. Students meeting these criteria are invited to obtain a scholarship application form from their local sheriff’s office or online at www.mnsheriffs.org.

Public Drainage Ditches

Public Drainage Ditches The County Highway Department assists in the maintenance and management of the Public Drainage Ditches in the County. Beltrami County has 1,050 miles of public drainage ditches. The County Board of Commissioners acts as the Ditch Authority with the Highway Department acting as the Ditch Inspector and or Ditch Engineer as needed. Landowners along these public drainage ditches may occasionally need to submit a Request For Ditch Repair when a ditch requires maintenance attention. If a landowner wants to work on a ditch, there is a process in place to ask permission that begins with completing a Judicial Ditch Permit Application. Ditch information is shown on the Beltrami County GIS Mapping Program. For more information, contact the Beltrami County Highway Department.
