Residents in the Big Belt, Bridger, and Castle Mountains are advised to prepare for a severe winter storm. The National Weather Service (NWS) Great Falls MT has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective immediately, October 10 at 4:13 PM MDT, until Monday, October 12 at 6:00 AM MDT.

Heavy, wet snow accumulations between 6 and 14 inches are expected. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 40 mph. These conditions are likely to make travel very difficult, and the combination of gusty winds and heavy snow could lead to downed tree branches and isolated power outages.

The NWS Great Falls MT emphasizes that snowfall on non-grassy surfaces, particularly at lower elevations, will primarily accumulate from this evening through late morning.

If travel is necessary, drivers are urged to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
