Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow and Wind Expected Through Monday Morning
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the East Glacier Park Region, Northern High Plains, Southern Rocky Mountain Front, Southern High Plains, Upper Blackfoot and MacDonald Pass, and Gates of the Mountains until Monday, October 12 at 6:00 AM MDT, bringing heavy snow and winds up to 45 mph.
Residents in the East Glacier Park Region, Northern High Plains, Southern Rocky Mountain Front, Southern High Plains, Upper Blackfoot and MacDonald Pass, and Gates of the Mountains should prepare for a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Great Falls MT.
This warning is effective immediately, October 10 at 4:13 PM MDT, and will remain in effect until Monday, October 12 at 6:00 AM MDT. Heavy, wet snow is expected with total accumulations between 10 and 20 inches across the affected areas. The Lincoln valley is forecast to receive up to 7 inches, while isolated amounts approaching 30 inches are possible within the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Winds are expected to gust as high as 45 mph.
The National Weather Service advises that travel could become very difficult. The combination of gusty winds and heavy, wet snow may bring down tree branches, leading to isolated power outages. Snowfall amounts will vary between grassy surfaces and roadways, particularly at lower elevations, with accumulations on non-grassy surfaces primarily occurring from evening through late morning.
If you must travel, carry an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle for emergencies. Road conditions can be obtained by calling 511.
