Winter Storm Warning for Big Belt, Bridger, Castle Mountains
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Big Belt, Bridger, and Castle Mountains from October 10 to October 12, with heavy snow, gusty winds, and difficult travel expected.
Residents in the Big Belt, Bridger, and Castle Mountains are advised to prepare for a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Great Falls MT. The warning is in effect from October 10 at 10:40 PM MDT until October 12 at 6:00 AM MDT.
Heavy, wet snow is expected, with total accumulations between 6 and 14 inches. Winds are anticipated to gust as high as 40 mph. The NWS cautions that travel could become very difficult due to these conditions. Gusty winds combined with the wet and heavy nature of the snow could also bring down tree branches, potentially leading to isolated power outages.
Snowfall amounts will vary significantly, with less accumulation on roadways at lower elevations compared to grassy surfaces, particularly during evening and late morning hours. If travel is essential, the NWS strongly advises keeping an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
