Storm Surge Watch Issued for Coastal Levy: Evacuations Possible
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Levy, with life-threatening storm surge possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning, urging residents to prepare for evacuations.
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Levy, including Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin, FL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:03 AM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning.
Residents in affected areas should plan for life-threatening storm surge flooding greater than 3 feet above ground. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations must be completed soon, before conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.
Potential impacts include areas of inundation, damage to buildings near the coast, weakened or washed-out escape routes and secondary roads, major beach erosion, and moderate damage to marinas and docks. While winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusty conditions are possible. Localized flooding from an additional 1-3 inches of rain is also possible; heed any flood watches and warnings.
