Life-Threatening Storm Surge Expected for Coastal Levy County

Coastal Levy County residents should prepare immediately for potential life-threatening storm surge. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement today, October 8, at 5:37 AM EDT, indicating a Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Coastal Levy County. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from Yankeetown to Egmont Key from Friday at 8 AM to Saturday at 8 AM.
Tropical Storm Isaias, currently located approximately 650 miles southwest of Cedar Key, is moving east-northeast at 9 mph with 80 mph intensity. While tropical storm force winds are not currently a concern for the local area, storm surge up to 4 feet is possible along the coast from the Suwannee River to Yankeetown.
Impacts in affected areas could include significant inundation, damage to coastal buildings, weakened or washed-out sections of near-shore escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marinas and docks. Residents in Coastal Levy County should follow advice from local officials regarding evacuations. Check emergency plans and supplies.
