Sumter County Public Works Splits Duties Among Four Divisions

The Sumter County Public Works Department operates four divisions that manage the county's infrastructure and facilities.

Planning and Design administers the Capital Improvements Program, handling pavement management, traffic signals, stormwater, and sidewalk projects. The division also conducts traffic studies and reviews permits for utilities, commercial driveways, and development.

Construction oversees capital improvement projects, manages pavement preservation contracts, and maintains stormwater and bridge facilities.

Operations maintains county roads, signs, signals, canals, drainage systems, and culverts. Staff repair guardrails and bridges.

Facilities and Parks repairs and maintains county structures, parks, and monuments. The division manages landscaping, mowing, janitorial, and plumbing contracts; provides electrical support to facilities; and oversees construction of new county buildings.
