TUPELO, Lee County – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Tupelo, effective immediately. This warning was issued on October 9 at 10:10 PM CDT and remains in effect until October 10 at 6:15 AM UTC.

Residents in Tupelo should now be taking action to secure property and prepare for hazardous winds and moderate flooding. Winds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could lead to limited damage, including to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete preparations now before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rainfall expected, with locally higher amounts possible. This moderate flooding threat could prompt evacuations and rescues, with rivers and tributaries potentially overspilling their banks. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
