Burn Ban Continues in Citrus County Due to Drought

Staff Writer

Burn Ban Continues in Unincorporated Citrus County

A burn ban remains in effect for unincorporated Citrus County following its April 1 implementation, when the Keetch-Byram Drought Index reached 502.

The county is experiencing severe to extreme drought conditions. Vegetation is highly susceptible to ignition, creating elevated wildfire risk.

Citrus County Fire Rescue will lift the ban once the drought index stays below 500 for seven consecutive days. If conditions worsen, fire officials will ask the Board of County Commissioners to extend the ban.

Residents in the City of Inverness or City of Crystal River should contact their city offices for local burning regulations.

For questions, contact Citrus County Fire Rescue Headquarters at 352-527-5406 or the Florida Forest Service – Withlacoochee Forestry Center at 352-797-4100.
