Citrus County Gets $16.4M for Homosassa Sewer Repairs

Citrus County will use $16.4 million in federal disaster recovery funds to repair aging sanitary sewer infrastructure, beginning with work along Halls River Road in Homosassa's Riverhaven area.
The Board of County Commissioners approved the grant agreement with the Florida Department of Commerce on May 12. The Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program funds infrastructure repairs in areas damaged by hurricanes, floods, or other federally declared disasters.
Crews will rehabilitate the Riverhaven sewer system before moving to other county areas needing updates. The county has not announced which areas will follow or provided a construction timeline.
Aging sewer lines cause backups and overflows during heavy rain, risking contamination of groundwater and surface water. Halls River Road runs through Homosassa near the Homosassa River and spring-fed waterways that drain to the Gulf of Mexico.
Citrus County applied for the federal grant after documenting infrastructure damage and capacity issues from recent storms. CDBG-DR funds require communities to demonstrate that repairs address vulnerabilities exposed by natural disasters.
The county has not scheduled public meetings or released contact information for residents with questions about construction or road closures.
