York trucker becomes nation's first lightning fatality of 2026
Peter Paul Garamone Sr., a 41-year-old long-haul truck driver from York, Pennsylvania, was struck and killed by lightning Wednesday night in a Wisconsin gas station parking lot during a severe thunderstorm. The incident marks the first reported lightning death in the United States this year, according to the National Lightning Safety Council.
Philly Corrections Sgt. Devon Williams Killed in Northeast Motorcycle Crash
A 10-year veteran Philadelphia Department of Prisons sergeant died Friday morning while riding his motorcycle to work in Northeast Philly's Holmesburg neighborhood. Sgt. Devon Williams crashed on Cottman Avenue just minutes from his shift at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. Police are investigating the cause as the city mourns one of its own.
