Kemper County residents are advised to immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS. The watch was issued at 10:16 PM CDT on October 8 and remains in effect.

Forecasters anticipate winds between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property, such as securing loose objects, should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially causing evacuations, rescues, and swollen waterways. Road and bridge closures due to moving water are also a risk. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates that tornadoes are not expected at this time. This Tropical Storm Watch is effective until 6:15 AM UTC on October 9. Act now to complete preparations before hazardous conditions develop.
