Lake Wind Advisory Issued for Flathead Lake: Boaters Urged to Exercise Caution
A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for Flathead Lake, effective until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12, with strong winds and rough waves creating hazardous conditions for boaters.
FLATHEAD LAKE – Boaters on Flathead Lake are advised to exercise extreme caution as a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12. The National Weather Service (NWS) Missoula has issued this advisory due to strong winds and rough waves expected on the lake.
Northeast to east winds are forecast to reach 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Localized gusts of 45 to 50 mph are possible on the east side of Flathead Lake. These conditions create hazardous environments for small craft, increasing the risk of capsizing.
While the broader Wind Advisory has been canceled, impacts are now focused specifically on Flathead Lake. Residents in the Flathead/Mission Valleys should be aware that localized tree damage and power outages remain possible due to the strong winds.
The NWS Missoula urges all boaters to use extra caution and be aware of rapidly changing conditions on the water. Prioritize safety and consider delaying any non-essential boating activities until the advisory expires.
