FLATHEAD/MISSION VALLEYS – A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Flathead and Mission Valleys, effective from 3 PM today, October 10, until 3 PM MDT Sunday, October 11. The National Weather Service in Missoula cautions residents about expected northeast to east winds.
Gusts up to 40 mph are anticipated, with isolated higher gusts of 50-55 mph possible on the east side of Flathead Lake, particularly in west-to-east oriented gaps along Highway 35, and in the Lake Blaine area. These strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to use extra caution while driving.
Impacts include unsecured objects being blown around, potential downed tree limbs, weakened trees, and a few power outages. Strong winds and rough waves on area lakes will create hazardous conditions for small craft. Boaters should exercise extreme caution as strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft.
Community members are urged to secure outdoor objects before the winds begin. The advisory was issued by the National Weather Service Missoula MT.
