A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Jefferson County, with a life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet possible, an increased tornado threat, and major flooding from additional rainfall.

Coastal Jefferson County residents face immediate, life-threatening storm surge and an increased tornado threat, according to a Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL today, October 9, at 11:05 AM EDT. This warning remains effective until 7:15 PM EDT.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.

The NWS also indicates a very favorable situation for many tornadoes, with impacts potentially including widespread damage and power loss. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain possible, leading to major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
