Tropical Storm Warning for Coastal Jefferson: Life-Threatening Storm Surge, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Jefferson County, prompting immediate action for life-threatening storm surge, extensive flooding, and a high tornado threat through Saturday morning.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Jefferson County, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL, as of October 9 at 11:05 AM EDT. This warning remains effective until 7:15 PM UTC today.
Residents should immediately shelter against life-threatening storm surge, with potential inundation of 4-6 feet above ground possible through Saturday morning. Evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must remain in shelters away from surge flooding. Do not venture outside.
Significant threats include major flooding from an additional 3-6 inches of rain, with localized higher amounts. A Flood Watch is in effect, and extensive flooding may lead to evacuations and rescues. Many roads and bridges may close, becoming dangerous. Furthermore, the NWS indicates a very favorable situation for many tornadoes, posing an extensive threat. Have a plan to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. While winds are forecast below tropical storm force (20-30 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions will be gusty. Listen for instructions from local officials and ensure emergency readiness.
