North Florida Volleyball Pulls Off Reverse Sweep vs. App State

BOONE, N.C. - The North Florida Volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit Saturday to defeat Appalachian State 3-2 in the Mountaineer Classic. The Ospreys secured the dramatic comeback victory at Holmes Convocation Center.

Kaili Doctor, a fourth-year outside hitter, led North Florida with 17 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Second-year outside hitter Leah McDonald recorded career highs with 13 kills and five blocks. She also added .281 hitting efficiency and six digs.

Third-year outside hitter Dakota Spurrier contributed 13 kills, six digs, three blocks and two service aces. Fourth-year libero Emma Pohlmann anchored the defense with a career-high 19 digs and three service aces.

The set scores were 16-25, 14-25, 26-24, 27-25 and 15-11 in favor of North Florida.

In the deciding fifth set, McDonald reached her career kill mark, helping UNF build an early lead. Spurrier's 13th kill cut App State's lead to 6-4, and a block by Francis Garay and McDonald tied the score at 10. North Florida closed the match with a 5-1 run.

Second-year setter Sofia Dawson directed the offense with a team-high 42 assists. This performance marks the 37th of Dawson's 40 matches as an Osprey where she has led the team in assists.

Second-year middle blocker Haleina Bowers posted a career-high six blocks. Doctor has recorded 10 or more kills in all eight matches this season.

The Ospreys will conclude their Mountaineer Classic play Sunday, September 13, against William & Mary.
