JACKSONVILLE — Residents can now simplify their waste and recycling routines with the City of Jacksonville's Jax Waste Wizard app. The free tool offers instant answers to disposal questions and provides personalized collection schedules.

The Jax Waste Wizard, available through the Jacksonville Waste & Recycle app or online at Jacksonville.gov/wastewizard, acts as a searchable database for thousands of household items. Users can enter an item, such as a greasy pizza box or a can of paint, and receive immediate instructions on proper disposal according to Jacksonville's guidelines.

Mayor Donna Deegan highlighted the app's role in improving customer service. "The Jax Waste Wizard provides clear answers in seconds, any time of day," Deegan said. "When residents get it right the first time, we get fewer missed pickups, fewer callbacks and a cleaner city."

Beyond item disposal, the app and website allow residents to find their collection day by entering their address. The Calendar Wizard enables users to create personalized schedules, which can sync with digital calendars. Users can also sign up for free email, text, or phone reminders for pickup days and receive alerts about schedule changes.

The tool supports the city's 904Lean initiative by reducing inefficiencies in city services. The app has been downloaded over 5,000 times, indicating strong resident interest in accessible waste management information.

Monica Cichowlas, City of Jacksonville Customer Service Manager, encouraged residents to use the tool. "The Jax Waste Wizard gives our community confidence that the answers they need are always in one place," Cichowlas said. "We encourage everyone to check out the Jax Waste Wizard before their next collection day." Residents can also report missed pickups or other issues directly through a link to MyJax within the app.
