Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Marianna: Prepare for Dangerous Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Marianna, issued by NWS Tallahassee FL, with dangerous winds, major flooding, and the potential for tornadoes expected today.
Residents in Marianna should immediately complete preparations as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued the warning today, October 9, at 8:28 AM EDT, and it remains in effect until 4:30 PM UTC (12:30 PM EDT).
Dangerous winds are expected, with peak forecasts of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. There is potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph, which could cause significant damage to roofs, siding, and mobile homes. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may snap or uproot, and roads could become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are also possible. Act now to complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers, streams, and ditches may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road closures anticipated. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately.
Furthermore, the situation is favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. These tornadoes could cause significant damage, including demolished mobile homes, uprooted trees, and power loss. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter.
