Coastal Horry County residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution in and near the ocean due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC.
The statement is effective immediately, October 6, 2026, at 6:19 PM EDT, and remains in effect until 8:00 PM EDT tonight. A strong north to south longshore current is expected in the waters off Coastal Horry County.
Longshore currents can pose significant dangers by sweeping swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. These currents can also make it difficult to return to shore. The National Weather Service advises checking with lifeguards for potential hazards before entering the ocean.
