Tropical Storm Warning Issued: Wewahitchka Residents Must Act Now

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wewahitchka, effective immediately, with severe wind, major flooding, and tornado threats. Residents must complete preparations now.

Wewahitchka residents are urged to finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning, effective as of October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT, indicates severe conditions are imminent, with the warning set to expire on October 9 at 7:15 AM UTC.

Forecasters anticipate winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, fallen tree limbs, and scattered power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major flooding is likely, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and many structures could be impacted by floodwaters. Dangerous driving conditions are expected due to impassable roads and submerged underpasses.

Furthermore, the situation is favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.

There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding. For ongoing local weather information, visit NWS Tallahassee. Additional information is available from the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Gulf County Emergency Management.
