Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Gulf: Evacuate Immediately if Ordered
An extreme Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Gulf, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, with life-threatening flooding and tropical storm force winds expected to begin Friday.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for the Coastal Gulf area, including Port Saint Joe and Cape San Blas, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, issued this extreme warning today, October 8, at 5:22 PM EDT.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible, with potential for flooding greater than 6 feet above ground. This surge is expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Residents in affected areas should complete evacuations now before driving conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.
Additionally, the area faces Tropical Storm force winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Prepare for limited wind damage and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for an additional 4-8 inches of rain, leading to major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
