Groveland Water Meter Towers Installation Complete
Groveland completed installation of 17 water meter data towers across the city in early June, finishing Phase 3 of its water infrastructure upgrade ahead of schedule.
The 50-foot towers, installed by contractor Ferguson from April through June, stand at strategic locations on public property including sewer lift stations. They collect water usage data from residential and commercial meters to enable faster leak detection, more accurate billing, and improved service reliability.
The towers operate on low-power 900 MHz radio frequency, the same spectrum used by garage door openers and cordless phones. The equipment meets Federal Communications Commission safety standards.
The towers contain no cameras, do not record audio, and provide no surveillance capability. Technicians did not enter homes or businesses during installation, and water service continued uninterrupted.
This phase follows the replacement of approximately 5,000 aged water and irrigation meters completed earlier. The city funded the project through its utilities program at no direct cost to residents or businesses.
Groveland plans to launch a web-based system as early as 2027 that will give customers access to real-time water usage data.
