Tropical Storm Watch for Greene County: Prepare for Winds and Flooding

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Greene County, including Eutaw, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding rain expected; prepare for property damage and potential evacuations.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Greene County, including Eutaw, effective October 9 at 6:57 AM CDT by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL. This watch indicates the potential for tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds up to 40 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Complete efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to structures like porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break and some trees to snap or uproot, potentially making a few roads impassable and causing scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Greene County can expect 2-4 inches of rain, with isolated higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell and overflow, and floodwaters may enter some structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected, but showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast. For more information, visit http://ready.gov/hurricanes.
