Greene County, including Eutaw, is under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. This warning is set to expire on October 9 at 6:30 PM UTC.

Residents in affected areas should take immediate action to secure property. Prepare for winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, and some road impassability due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 2-4 inches of rain, with localized higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable to inundation. Driving conditions will become hazardous.

The NWS indicates that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes at this time. For more information and safety resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
