Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Grady County: Prepare for Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
Grady County is under a Tropical Storm Watch with immediate preparations advised for hazardous winds, major flooding potential, and possible tornadoes, according to the NWS Tallahassee FL.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Grady County, including Cairo, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 9, 2026, at 5:17 AM EDT, expiring at 1:30 PM EDT. Residents are urged to complete all preparations immediately.
Hazardous winds are anticipated, with peak forecasts of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, and the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Property protection efforts should be underway now. Expect limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and potential power outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with additional rainfall of 3-6 inches and locally higher amounts expected. This poses a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the likelihood of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Flood waters may make roads impassable and impact structures.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage and power loss.
