A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Cairo, Grady County, until 10:15 AM EDT, with immediate threats of hazardous wind, major flooding, and tornadoes; residents must act now to prepare.
CAIRO, Grady County – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Cairo, effective immediately as of October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM EDT. Residents must act now to prepare for hazardous wind, potential major flooding, and the threat of tornadoes.
Wind speeds are forecast between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the NWS warns of potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage to porches, awnings, and carports. Unanchored mobile homes and lightweight objects are at risk. Scattered power and communication outages are possible. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for an additional 1 inch of rainfall leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should include potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers, creeks, and ditches may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road and bridge closures.
A Tornado Watch is also in effect. The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Residents in manufactured homes or boats should relocate to safe shelter immediately. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; if a warning is issued, shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
