Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Grady County: Act Now for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Grady County, including Cairo, with immediate threats of hazardous winds, major flooding, and numerous tornadoes. Residents must act now to prepare and secure property.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Grady County, including Cairo, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds, potential major flooding, and the possibility of numerous tornadoes. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete all preparations now before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Rivers may overflow banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
A Tornado Watch is also in effect, indicating a very favorable situation for tornadoes, some potentially intense. Emergency plans should include the possibility of many tornadoes. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelters. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause extensive damage and hinder emergency efforts.
