Residents and mariners in Coastal Georgetown, particularly near Yawkey South Island and Winyah Bay Entrance, are advised to monitor weather conditions closely following a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington NC.

A shower over Winyah Bay Entrance, moving north at 10 mph, was detected by Doppler radar at 9:41 AM EDT today, October 10. This weather event includes a hazard of a waterspout moving onshore and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Waterspouts pose a significant risk, capable of overturning boats and creating localized hazardous conditions on the water. On land, gusty winds could cause damage by knocking down tree limbs and displacing unsecured outdoor objects.

The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 10:30 AM UTC today, October 10, 2026 (6:30 AM EDT). The NWS urges the community to be alert for threatening weather conditions during this period.
