Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties are under a Rip Current Statement and a Coastal Flood Advisory, effective immediately. Residents and visitors are advised to take precautions due to dangerous rip currents and potential minor coastal flooding.
The Rip Current Statement, issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC, is in effect from 6 AM EDT this morning, October 11, through this evening, October 11. Dangerous rip currents are expected during this period. The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 7 AM to 10 AM EDT this morning, October 11.
Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches may experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may also observe minor coastal flooding. Residents should check with local officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures.
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. For water safety, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
