Rip Current Risk & Coastal Flood Advisory for Horry, Georgetown Co.
A High Rip Current Risk and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties today, with dangerous rip currents expected and minor coastal flooding possible in low-lying areas.
Residents and visitors in Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties are advised of a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory, effective today, October 11, 2026. This alert has been issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC.
The High Rip Current Risk is in effect from 6 AM EDT today through Sunday evening. Dangerous rip currents are expected. Swimmers are urged to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 7 AM to 10 AM EDT today. Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches may experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may observe minor coastal flooding.
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Check with local officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures.
