Residents in affected areas, including parts of Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi, must finalize preparedness measures as impacts are expected Friday into Saturday.

Tropical Storm Isaias, currently 540 miles south-southwest of New Orleans, is moving east-northeast at 8 mph with 50 mph winds and is forecast to bring life-threatening wind, storm surge, and heavy rainfall.

Coastal Mississippi east of Ocean Springs may experience extensive impacts including considerable roof damage, downed trees, and widespread power outages. Coastal Mississippi west of Ocean Springs and extreme coastal Southeast Louisiana (Mouth of Mississippi River eastward) could face dangerous wind. Life-threatening storm surge of 3 to 5 feet is expected from the Mississippi River mouth to the Rigolets and Bay Saint Louis westward. East of Bay Saint Louis, 5 to 7 feet of storm surge is possible. Major rainfall flooding is anticipated in Jackson County, MS.

Residents should follow local official advice regarding evacuations. Complete all outdoor preparations as soon as possible before conditions deteriorate. Have an emergency plan and kit ready. Monitor official NWS updates, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news for critical information. The next update is expected around 5 PM EDT, or sooner if conditions warrant.
