Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Inland Franklin; Major Flooding Expected
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Inland Franklin County, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT, with major flooding rain and hazardous winds expected.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL for Inland Franklin County, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. Residents are urged to finalize preparations immediately as hazardous conditions are expected to develop.
Strong winds are anticipated, with peak forecasts of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph, potentially reaching tropical storm force (39-57 mph). Prepare for limited wind damage, including to awnings and unanchored mobile homes, and scattered power outages. Act now to secure property.
The primary threat is extensive flooding rain. An additional 4-8 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is forecasted. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and many structures could be impacted. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
A few tornadoes are also possible. Have a plan to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding.
The Tropical Storm Watch expires October 8 at 7:00 AM UTC. For local updates, visit weather.gov/tallahassee, floridadisaster.org, and franklinemergencymanagement.com.
