Storm Surge Watch Issued for Coastal Franklin, Life-Threatening Flooding Possible
A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Coastal Franklin, warning of life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet, significant flooding rain, and potential tornadoes from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Coastal Franklin residents are urged to take immediate action as a Storm Surge Watch has been issued by the NWS Tallahassee FL, effective October 7 at 4:52 PM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning in Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point.
Preparations for storm surge flooding should be underway. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.
Beyond storm surge, residents should also prepare for potential wind gusts up to 40 mph, leading to limited damage and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should now be underway, and all preparations should be completed before hazardous winds arrive.
The threat of major flooding rain has increased, with additional rainfall of 3-6 inches expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for significant flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
