Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Hamilton: Prepare for Severe Weather

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Hamilton County, indicating potential tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and tornadoes in the next 48 hours; residents should complete preparations now.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Hamilton County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:17 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City. This means tropical storm-force winds (39-57 mph) are possible within the next 48 hours. Residents should complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, impassable roads due to debris, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

Moderate flooding rain is also a significant threat, with 1-3 inches of rainfall expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues due to swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and significant inundation of low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense, having larger damage paths. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to a safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. This Tropical Storm Watch expires October 8 at 7:30 PM UTC.
