A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Harris County, including Hamilton, with warnings for winds up to 57 mph, moderate flooding rain, and potential tornadoes; residents should prepare immediately.
HARRIS COUNTY, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Harris County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:43 AM EDT. This watch includes the Hamilton area and indicates potential for hazardous weather conditions.
Residents should prepare for winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts up to 45 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Complete preparations before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Anticipate 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, potentially leading to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This alert is effective until October 9, 2026, 12:45 PM UTC (8:45 AM EDT).
