Harris County residents must act now to prepare for hazardous wind, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA issued the watch at 9:16 PM EDT on October 8, effective until 5:30 AM UTC on October 9.

Winds are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should secure outdoor objects and protect property. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, potentially causing moderate flooding. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues in flood-prone areas. Rivers and small streams may overflow, leading to hazardous driving conditions and road closures.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a potential for significant impacts. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. For more information, visit weather.gov/atlanta or ready.gov/hurricanes.
