Chris Mills, Deputy Chief The Deputy Chief is a key member of the Temple Terrace Police Department's command staff, responsible for overseeing administrative functions and supporting the department's long-term strategic goals. This position reports directly to the Chief of Police and plays an important role in ensuring operational efficiency behind the scenes. In the absence of the Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief assumes command of the department to ensure continuity of leadership and operations. A primary responsibility of the Deputy Chief is the oversight of the Training Division. In this role, the Deputy Chief ensures that all departmental training meets current law enforcement standards, supports officer development, and complies with state and accreditation requirements. The Deputy Chief coordinates mandatory certifications, continuing education programs, and specialized training initiatives to maintain a highly skilled and prepared workforce. The Deputy Chief also manages the department's budget. This includes developing and monitoring the budget, allocating resources, and ensuring that operational and training needs are met within financial guidelines. The Deputy Chief works closely with city leadership to align fiscal planning with department priorities. Beyond internal responsibilities, the Deputy Chief is involved in policy development and departmental planning. The role includes reviewing and updating procedures, supporting internal audits and compliance efforts, and contributing to the overall effectiveness and professionalism of the department. In times of critical incidents or large-scale events, the Deputy Chief serves in a command capacity to support response efforts and ensure effective departmental leadership during emergencies or periods of heightened operational demand.

"Temple Terrace … A River Runs Through It Our city and its residents are bound closely by the Hillsborough River which cascades past pristine patches of cypress and pine trees, flows under busy public thoroughfares and meanders through beautiful conservation and park areas. It is brimming with wildlife and is an avian haven. Our residents enjoy it for relaxation and recreation. Upstream, it is a narrow, winding body of water, well-suited to canoe and kayak exploration. Downstream, it is a broad and straighter passage used by power boaters, water-skiers, wake-boarders and jet-skiers. There is good fishing to be had throughout, from casting tiny nymph flies in the upper narrows to employing Carolina-rigging for monster bass by the dam. Along its banks, one can watch an alligator sits motionless, waiting for the opportunity to feed on an unknowing fish, perfect formation of a covey of baby ducks, shepherded by their mother, a pink spoonbill claws for the sky, or a hawk diving seemingly out of nowhere only to fly off clutching a wriggling bluegill.
