Driver Licenses & ID Cards - Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Driver License Check The Driver License Check system can be used to review the status of certain items connected to your driver license (e.g. driver status and driver improvement school eligibility) or to update your social security number or insurance information. Parents may also access the driving history of their child with this system. General Information The Division of Motorist Services has driver license service centers located throughout the state. Depending on your location the office may offer services on a walk-in or appointment only basis. Drivers may also be eligible to renew or replace a driver license online at MyDMV Portal. Renew or Replace Your License Customers must renew their Florida driver license or ID card every eight years. The expiration date is listed on the credential. Florida driver license and ID card holders may renew their credential up to 18 months in advance of the expiration date. Suspensions & Revocations There are several reasons why a driver license might be suspended or revoked and, depending on the circumstances, varying requirements for reinstatement. The Suspension and Revocations webpage offers detailed information about reinstating a driver license after being suspended or revoked due to unpaid traffic tickets, failure to comply or appear at a traffic summons, failure to complete a court-ordered driver improvement course, inadequate vision, being a habitual traffic offender, being delinquent in child support and more. Medical Review Do you have a family member or friend whose medical condition may make them an unsafe driver? As a concerned citizen, you may see behaviors and symptoms of medical conditions that may indicate someone is unsafe to drive. The mission of the Medical Review program is not to prevent an individual with a medical condition from driving, but to assure the condition does not interfere with the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Federal Real ID Act The Federal REAL ID Act became effective nationwide on May 11, 2008. Florida began issuing REAL ID compliant credentials after January 1, 2010. Because Florida is a REAL ID compliant state, Florida driver licenses and ID cards are accepted nationwide as official identification for domestic air travel and access to military bases and most Federal facilities. Teen Drivers Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws allow young drivers to safely gain driving experience under lower-risk conditions before obtaining full driving privileges. These laws outline limits and restrictions for new drivers, ages 15, 16 and 17. Florida's GDL laws are designed to help teens gradually and safely build their skills and experience behind the wheel. It is important for teens and their parents to understand these laws and obey them. Mature Driver Mature Driver is an education and awareness campaign designed to educate the public about the effects of age on driving ability and to encourage drivers to make appropriate choices to maximize personal safety and the safety of Florida's communities. New Driver License & ID Card Starting in August 2017, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles began issuing a new, more secure Florida driver license and ID card. Motorist Modernization

Motorist Modernization - Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Motor Modernization The Motorist Modernization initiative is a multi-year phased plan for re-engineering the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' driver license and motor vehicle systems to create efficiencies in the department's work processes, enhance safety features for law enforcement agencies and streamline interactivity for customers now and into the future. When complete, the initiative will modernize driver license and vehicle registration systems to serve Florida's growing population, without growing government. Customers may experience shorter wait times at local driver license and motor vehicle service centers and will gain access to additional online options. Motorist Modernization includes a robust collaboration with law enforcement agencies, tax collectors, dealerships, insurance companies, emergency services and state agencies, among additional various stakeholders. Stakeholder input continues to be a valuable part of this process and will help shape the new technology and ensure increased efficiency. The Motorist Modernization team is currently in Phase II for developing the innovative Online Registration and Identity Operating Network (ORION). The new systems from Phase I are now implemented and fully functional within ORION. Advisory Boards The Motorist Modernization Advisory Boards serve in a governance capacity to the Motorist Modernization Program. The boards provide input and strategic guidance for the Motorist Modernization team and the Executive Steering Committee to assist in decision making. The meetings consist of multiple representatives from various departments and agencies in Florida. Members advise, assist, support and advocate for the program. The Phase I Advisory Board members advised on updates to driver license systems. After Phase I development efforts were fully implemented in early 2021 by the department with no further action items remaining, the Phase I Advisory Board members met for the final board meeting on January 11, 2022. On this date, the Phase I Advisory Board successfully fulfilled its duties. As a result, the Phase I Advisory Board was successfully dissolved. The Office of Motorist Modernization thanks all Phase I Advisory Board members for their service to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the citizens of Florida. Their contributions, expertise, and commitment have been greatly appreciated. The Phase II Advisory Board is currently active with board members focusing on updates to motor vehicle systems. There is no requirement to obtain a Florida driver license when military and their family members move to Florida, take a job, or enroll their children in public schools. Service member Emergency Contact Information By registering your emergency contacts, you provide law enforcement officials with information on who they should contact during an emergency, such as a crash. The department houses the information in a secure database that only law enforcement officers can access. Even if you previously registered your contacts, we recommend that you update the registry if your contacts change or if they move or change their phone number. Not only should service members make sure to register your emergency contacts into the Department's Emergency Contact Information system, it's equally a good idea to make sure loved ones update their information too, especially during a deployment if the service member is the emergency contact. Anyone who has a Florida driver license or ID card can register their emergency contact information into the system. Children as young as five years old are eligible for a Florida ID card.

Emergency Contact Information History

Emergency Contact Information History - Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Driver Licenses & ID Cards Emergency Contact Information History Register your Emergency Contact Information at MyDMVPortal.flhsmv.gov Ask yourself, if you were in a crash or other emergency situation, couldn't talk and your cell phone was locked, how would your family and friends be notified? If you register your emergency contact information (ECI) into the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles system, law enforcement can contact your loved ones for you, and quickly, even across state lines. ECI is a secure system that only law enforcement nationwide can access in order to contact your designated family or friends in response to an emergency situation. Who will have access to my info? Law Enforcement Agencies have access for the purpose of contacting those you have listed in the event of an emergency. As of July 1, 2022, pursuant to s. 394.463(2)(a) or s. 397.6772(1)(a), a receiving facility, hospital, or licensed detoxification or addictions receiving facility has access to your emergency contact information for the sole purpose of notifying those you have listed of your whereabouts. Will my information be used for any other purpose? No. This information is only used to notify the contacts that you designate in the event of an emergency. Why was this system developed? The system was first developed in Florida because there was no emergency contact program in place to quickly notify loved ones in the event of an emergency. ECI was initiated by Christine Olson in loving memory of her daughter Tiffiany because she was involved in a fatal crash and it was over 6 hours before Christine was notified. History On December 7, 2005, the life of Christine Olson was changed forever. Christine's daughter Tiffiany Olson was involved in a traffic crash on U.S. 19 in Manatee County, Florida. Tiffiany received fatal injuries when the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with another vehicle. Ms. Olson was not notified of Tiffiany's passing for several hours and was not able to say her last goodbyes. Since that day, Ms. Olson, with the assistance of State Representative Bill Galvano from Bradenton District 68, began pushing for emergency information to be added to a person's driver's license or identification card. Since the information could not be printed directly on a license, Ms. Olson and Rep. Galvano contacted the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and took the next best route—to have the information included in the D.A.V.I.D. (Driver And Vehicle Information Database) system which is a secured database used by most law enforcement agencies in the State of Florida. Ms. Olson and her family and FLHSMV are urging all licensed drivers in the State of Florida to input their information so families can be contacted more quickly when a family member is seriously injured or killed in a traffic crash. Ms. Olson and her family have worked tirelessly to make emergency information readily available for law enforcement and her efforts have paid off so far. Learn more at www.ToInformFamiliesFirst.org.

Florida's NEW Driver License and ID Card

Starting in August 2017, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles began issuing a new, more secure Florida driver license and ID card. By December 2017, the new credential became available at all service centers throughout Florida and online. In May 2019, the department began issuing modified credentials removing the magnetic strip on the back of the card, adding a tactile security feature to the front and changing some of the data layout. In August 2020, the department developed additional enhancements to credentials, including redundant sexual predator and sexual offender designations as well as more ultraviolet (UV) features, to increase security and reduce the risk of fraud. The modified credential continues to provide Floridians the most secure over-the-counter credential on the market today. Previous driver license and ID cards will still be in use alongside the new credential until replaced or phased out. The Look: Florida's driver license and ID card is uniquely Florida! The card front incorporates a pastel-colored linear rendering of the Florida state seal and a large orange "FL" over a stark white base. On the card back, an image of the state of Florida rests among ocean waves and the year 1845 is displayed, referring to the year Florida became the 27th state in the Union. Photograph images will now be printed with a transparent background and appear in four locations on the credential. Fraud Protection: FLHSMV is committed to ensuring Florida's credential remains secure. The new credential design incorporates nearly double the fraud protection measures compared to the previous design, including redundant data, tactile security features, ultraviolet (UV) ink and optically variable features. Designated Header Colors: Credentials are issued with designated header colors that denote the type of license the customer holds. Credentials held by customers under 21 years of age will display a red box on the card front that indicates the date until which the customer will be under 21. Designations: The credential incorporates designations for lifetime sportsman's, boater, freshwater, saltwater and hunting licenses, as well as designations for Veteran, organ donor, deaf/hard of hearing and developmentally disabled. Designations available include: Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Developmentally Disabled, FWC Lifetime Boater, FWC Lifetime Freshwater, FWC Lifetime Hunting, FWC Lifetime Saltwater, FWC Lifetime Sportsman's, Insulin Dependent, Organ Donor, and Veteran. Getting Your New Card: Individuals are only required to replace their current driver license or ID card if their current credential has reached its expiration or a required change is needed, such as a name or address change. In Person: Beginning August 2020, the modified credential will be offered at driver license service centers and tax collector offices. The new credential will be available at all service centers by the end of August 2020. Online: The modified credential will be available for online renewals at MyDMV Portal by the end of August 2020. Other Notable Items: Motorcycle Endorsements: Motorcycle endorsements are not spelled out on the front of Florida driver licenses. Motorcycle-also and motorcycle-only endorsements are designated by an "A" or "O" in the endorsement field located on the front of the card and are also indicated by a "A-MTRCL Also" or "O-MTRCL Only" on the back of the card. Sexual Predator/Offender Identifiers: The Florida driver license and ID card allows for the identification of sexual predators and sexual offenders with a blue identifier on the bottom right of the front of the card. Sexual predators will have "Sexual Predator" spelled out on the card, while sexual offenders have "943.0435, F.S." listed in this area. AAMVA Mandatory Data Element Numbers: The Florida driver license and ID card display small numbers next to each data field (i.e. name, expiration date, sex, height). The inclusion of these numbers is required by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators' driver license and ID card design standard and has been adopted by many states.

Summer Events at the Broward Center

Summer is a great time to catch up with old friends and you’ll find them this June at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts with a fun look back at Black American sitcoms, four bands that created the soundtrack of the '80s, a musical trip under the sea to Bikini Bottom scored by rock legends and everyone’s favorite board game brought to life in a Broadway blockbuster.   New Canon Chamber Collective presents a fun, nostalgic and entertaining musical production Remember the Times Live celebrating Black American sitcoms in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. This joyous multidisciplinary production of music, theater, dance, poetry and film features a three-part digital documentary produced by opera vocalist and producer, James Binon. Also featured are: storyteller and educator Arsimmer McCoy; Darius V. Daughtry, founder and executive director of Arts Prevail Project; vocalist JaNia Harden of The Harden Project; and Tanisha Cidel, co-founder and executive director of Evolutionary Arts Life Foundation. Local music artists Waldron Dunkley II, Sarah Ruff and Jeremy Jordan composed original medley arrangements that will have audiences dancing and singing. A post-show Q&A immediately follows the performance as part of the Broward Center's Arts for Action: Black Voices initiative focusing on how the arts and artists can be a force for change in addressing critical issues of social justice and racial inequality. That initiative is presented by Baptist Health and JM Family Enterprises, Inc. Funding for Remember the Times is provided in part by the Miami Foundation and is presented as part of the Broward Center’s Arts Access Program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. A legendary roster of Grammy® Award winners including Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper and John Legend help bring one of the world’s most beloved characters to the stage as the 2023/2024 Slow Burn Theatre Company Season presented by American National Bank in the Amaturo Theater culminates with the bold, original musical The SpongeBob Musical Saturday, June 8 through Sunday, June 23 with an open captioned performance on Sunday, June 16 at 2 p.m. Adapted from the iconic Nickelodeon series, SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and all of Bikini Bottom face total annihilation — until a most unexpected hero rises to take center stage and the power of optimism saves the world. Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg with musical production conceived by Tina Landau, the musical has a book by Kyle Jarrow and original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. The score also features songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton with additional music by Tom Kitt. Nickelodeon, SpongeBob SquarePants, and all related titles, logos and characters are trademarks of Viacom International Inc. This show is presented in arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Performance times vary. Murder and blackmail are on the menu when six mysterious guests assemble at Boddy Manor for a night they’ll never forget as Broadway in Fort Lauderdale presents Clue in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center Tuesday, June 11- Sunday, July 16. Was it Mrs. Peacock in the study with the knife? Or was it Colonel Mustard in the library with the wrench? Based on the cult 1985 Paramount movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is the ultimate whodunit that will leave you dying of laughter and keep you guessing until the final twist. The Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale 2023/2024 season is made possible with the generous support of title sponsor Bank of America and presenting sponsor Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale is presented by Florida Theatrical Association in partnership with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Performance times vary. Four iconic bands with 18 Billboard 100 hits transport audiences to the heart of the neon-soaked, synth-driven decade in Abducted by the '80s on Sunday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. Wang Chung, Men Without Hats, The Motels and Naked Eyes have joined forces to create a musical extravaganza that delivers mega-hits such as: "Everybody Have Fun Tonight," "Dance Hall Days," "Let's Go," "To Live and Die in L.A," "Safety Dance," "Pop Goes The World," "Only The Lonely," "Suddenly Last Summer," "Take The L," "Always Something There To Remind Me" and "Promises, Promises." Enjoy an '80s pre-show experience at 4:30 p.m. featuring games, trivia and themed snacks.  Dress in your '80s best for a chance to impress as the Broward Center goes back in time with all the favorite '80s jams. Also in June, Dance Dimensions presents Dance the Night Away (June 1-2) and Elaina The Poet Bringz the Jazz presents God & Art (June 22).
