The Parkland Planning and Zoning Advisory Board advises the City Commission on development matters, aiming to preserve community character and guide the city's growth and land use in compliance with Florida Statutes and local code. The seven-member board, with two alternates, requires four members for a quorum. Recommendations for approval to the City Commission need a majority vote; a tie results in a denial recommendation. Members absent from three consecutive meetings vacate their positions, with vacancies subject to City Commission appointment.
The board reviews rezonings, master plans, plats, site plans, site plan amendments, variances and conditional uses. It also examines Community Appearance Board applications and ordinances impacting the land development code, such as zoning in progress, ensuring new developments complement areas like the historic downtown. As the Local Planning Agency, the board considers land use plan amendments and Comprehensive Plan changes, reporting findings and recommendations to the Commission for the city's development and improvement.
Regular meetings occur at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the City Hall Commission Chambers. Special meetings may be scheduled for the fourth Thursday if necessary. Additional meetings may arise for specific issues. Residents can confirm meeting dates on the city's Calendar of Events or by contacting the Planning & Zoning Division at 954.757.4158. Live meetings are also available online.
