The City Clerk serves as the local Elections Official, overseeing all aspects of the City's election process. Regular elections take place annually on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The Mayor and Council Members serve two-year terms, with elections staggered between odd and even years. All City elections are non-partisan, and all seats are at large, meaning candidates represent the entire city rather than specific districts.
Candidates for Mayor or City Council must be qualified electors and have resided within City limits for over one consecutive year prior to qualifying. The qualifying period for the 2026 election concluded earlier this year, running from Monday, August 3, 2026, through noon on Friday, August 7, 2026. Candidate packets became available in March for those interested in running.
A recent change in Florida law requires all voters to re-request their vote-by-mail ballots, as previous requests expired on December 31, 2024. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot for the November 3, 2026, election is October 22, 2026. Residents can request their ballot by visiting http://voteseminole.gov/vote-by-mail. Looking ahead, the Mayor, Megan Sladek, and Council Member, Group 1, Natalie Teuchert, will be up for election in 2027.
