Tropical Storm Warning for Barbour County: Act Now!
Barbour County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action required due to hazardous winds, moderate flooding potential, and a risk of multiple tornadoes, as issued by NWS Birmingham, AL.
BARBOUR COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Barbour County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 7:10 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning includes Eufaula and is set to expire on October 9 at 3:15 AM UTC.
Residents must act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with scattered power and communications outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding from 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and moderate rainfall flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area and heed any flood watches and warnings.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, including a few possibly intense tornadoes. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
