Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Barbour County: Act Now!
A severe Tropical Storm Warning, including threats of high winds, moderate flooding, and tornadoes, has been issued for Barbour County, especially Eufaula, effective immediately until 9:30 AM CDT. Residents must act now to prepare and secure property, and be ready to shelter.
BARBOUR COUNTY – Residents in Barbour County, particularly Eufaula, are under an immediate and severe Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, as of October 9, 2026, at 1:19 AM CDT. This warning is effective until 9:30 AM CDT.
You must act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. Plan for potential winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts up to 40 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Expect limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unsecured lightweight objects. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Prepare for moderate flooding; emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Furthermore, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter immediately. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Significant impacts could include considerable damage, power loss, and dangerous projectiles.
