A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Barbour County, including Eufaula, with tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes expected within the next 36 hours; residents should complete all preparations now.
BARBOUR COUNTY, AL — A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Barbour County, including Eufaula, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 4:07 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents should complete all preparations now.
Peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are possible. This could cause limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some snapped or uprooted trees, and potential scattered power and communications outages. Roads may become impassable due to debris, particularly in urban or heavily wooded areas. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and small streams and ditches may flood. Floodwaters can enter structures. Hazardous driving conditions and road closures are possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelters before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
