A Wind Advisory is in effect for Esmeralda and Central Nye Counties until Monday, October 12, 2026, at 5:00 AM PDT, with gusts up to 45 mph; a Freeze Watch follows with temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit possible.
Residents in Esmeralda and Central Nye Counties should prepare for a Wind Advisory effective immediately, October 11, 2026, at 2:08 PM PDT, until Monday, October 12, 2026, at 5:00 AM PDT. The National Weather Service in Las Vegas, NV, has issued this advisory, forecasting south winds between 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
These gusty winds can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Drivers are urged to use extra caution during this period. Additionally, unsecured outdoor objects should be secured to prevent them from being blown around, which could cause damage or injury. The strong winds also pose a risk of blowing down tree limbs and could potentially lead to isolated power outages.
In addition to the wind, a Freeze Watch is also in effect for the same area from late Monday night through Tuesday morning, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit possible. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent water pipes from freezing, residents are advised to wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly.
