Wind Advisory and Freeze Watch Issued for Esmeralda, Central Nye Counties
A Wind Advisory is in effect until Monday 5:00 AM PDT, followed by a Freeze Watch from late Monday night through Tuesday morning for Esmeralda and Central Nye Counties, issued by NWS Las Vegas NV.
Residents in Esmeralda and Central Nye County should prepare for a Wind Advisory, effective immediately, and a Freeze Watch beginning late Monday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV issued the Wind Advisory on October 11 at 12:18 PM PDT, remaining in effect until October 12 at 5:00 AM PDT.
South winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. These gusty winds can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. The NWS advises securing all unsecured outdoor objects to prevent them from blowing around.
Following the wind advisory, a Freeze Watch will be in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap them, drain them, or allow them to drip slowly.
